Sidney Crosby: Possibly Retiring?

Known as one of hockey’s most informed sources, the Fan 590’s Bob McCowan recently claimed that members of Sidney Crosby’s family are encouraging him to retire due to concussion trauma that has kept the games best player off the ice for more than three months.

While McCowan failed to name names, it appears as if we can eliminate Crosby’s parents from the equation.

Darren Dreger of TSN announced via Twitter that Crosby’s agent Pat Brisson had responded to the rumors by stating:

"Sidney's parents have been extremely encouraging and supportive during this recovery period."

Louis Jean of Sportsnet went a little further with Brisson's comments with Brisson saying:

"With Twitter and social media, people get carried away, It's irresponsible. This report (on Crosby) is baseless. At no time has retirement ever been discussed."

The fact that Sidney’s parents are supporting their son in his time in need does not dismiss McCowan’s claims completely, nor does his agents rebuttal, but it does bring into question just how far down the family tree these concerns come from.
