The New York Rangers have had about the best 48 hours a team could possibly have.  First they finalized a trade with Columbus without giving up key pieces. After that Nashville announced they had matched Philadelphia's offer to Weber, thus keeping Shea Weber in Nashville and out of the Atlantic Division.

This recent news is music to all Ranger fan's ears. The Philadelphia Flyers have a potent offense and a big name goaltender who struggled do to the "run and gun" style of play the Flyers have.  Weber would have given Ilya Bryzgalov much needed support. Unfortunately for the Flyers they lost out on Weber and in return lost Matt Carle to Tampa Bay.

With the Rangers being the only team that has made successful moves to this point, they should be considered heavy favorites to win the Eastern Conference.

There are still some moves that could happen this offseason. Both Alexander Semin and Shane Doan still remain unsigned and no one has finalized a trade for Bobby Ryan.  These two players could end up in the Atlantic and give whatever team that signs them a much needed boost to try to keep place with the Rangers.
