Blues 2, Sharks 1—Final

The St. Louis Blues edged the San Jose Sharks 2-1 in Game 1 of their Western Conference Finals matchup.

Blues forward David Backes struck first in the opening period with a power-play deflection, but San Jose's Tomas Hertl responded 34 seconds later to even the score. Jori Lehtera put St. Louis back in the lead during the second frame.

Despite a late charge—including two shots that hit the post—from San Jose, the Blues survived at home. Brian Elliott registered 31 saves.

Neither franchise has ever won a Stanley Cup, so St. Louis is a step closer to securing a chance to end that streak.
