The San Jose Sharks are conducting an in-depth search for their next head coach after parting ways with Todd McLellan, who was with the team for seven seasons. The franchise is in a transitional period. It's one of the premier jobs in the league, so there is a lot at stake for the future of the franchise this offseason.

Sportsnet Canada: Sharks To Interview Randy Carlyle Wednesday, April 24 According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet Canada, the Sharks have received permission to interview former Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Randy Carlyle for their vacancy:

On April 21, the Sharks and McLellan parted ways after a successful seven-year stretch that included a 40-33-9 mark in 2014-15. McLellan told The Associated Press (via that he sees the franchise going through a potentially long rebuilding phase: "This team is clearly in a rebuild. With one year left, heading forward I had to analyze where everything was going. I felt with some of the answers I got that it was time."
