Ryane Clowe Injury: Updates on Devils Forward’s Concussion and Return

New Jersey Devils forward Ryane Clowe appears to have suffered another concussion during Thursday's game against St. Louis.

According to Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello, via Rich Chere of The Newark Star-Ledger, Clowe suffered the concussion during the first period and took a lot more abuse before the final blow took him out of the game:

He got hit with a stick and got his nose stitched. He then got hit with an elbow and got his chin stitched. Then he got hit again on the side of the head, so we held him.

He was checked after and the doctors recommended he not go back in. He is with us. He flew with us (from St. Louis to Detroit). He can fly. He will not be playing tonight and, because of his past history, we'll get him re-evaluated when we get home.

The good news, as Lamoriello noted, is Clowe was able to fly with the team to Detroit for their game on Friday against the Red Wings. It's a scary situtation the star forward is in because he suffered two concussions last year. He's 32 years old and hasn't been able to play more than 43 games in a season since 2011-12.
