Ryan Strome, the New York Islanders' fifth-round pick overall in 2011, has set a massive above-point-per-game pace in the Ontario Hockey League playing for the Niagra Ice Dogs.
In 29 outings Ryan has racked up 18 goals and 38 assists for a total of 56 points, earning him first overall spot in the league in scoring. Prior to the 2012 NHL lockout, Strome had said he wanted to give the Islanders a tough decision to send him back to the OHL.
Strome was a strong candidate to play on the Islanders this season, seeing as how he is not old enough to play in their American Hockey League affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
There have been concerns over Strome's size and young age, but transferring his OHL play into the big leagues for a nine-game trial period will most definitely earn him a spot on the Islanders.
A playmaker with his ability would pay dividends for an Islanders team that at times has had trouble scoring during the regular season beyond the first line.
