Ryan Callahan Injury: Updates on Rangers Star’s Knee and Return

New York Rangers captain Ryan Callahan is expected to miss the next four to six weeks after sustaining a Grade 2 MCL sprain in the first period of Tuesday night's 4-1 loss to the Nashville Predators, the team announced.

— New York Rangers (@NYRangers) December 11, 2013 Callahan sustained the injury 9:43 into the first period when his knee bent awkwardly against the boards after laying a hit on Predators defenseman Victor Bartley. After being hit, Bartley's leg whipped around and connected with Callahan's right knee, buckling it into the boards.

The Rangers winger then skated his way to the bench, where he was taken almost immediately back to the locker room. New York's training staff then took him back for further examination, where an MRI revealed the extent of the damage.

In his eighth season with the Rangers, Callahan, 28, has gotten off to a disappointing start. He has only 13 points in 24 appearances, ranking seventh on the team. While Callahan isn't expected to be among the league leaders in scoring, his disappointing start ...
