Rob Scuderi is heading back to California, as the Los Angeles Kings sent Christian Ehrhoff to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for the 37-year-old defenseman, the team announced Friday.
The Kings assigned defenseman Kevin Gravel to the Ontario Reign—their AHL affiliate—to make room for Scuderi.
The Kings will be Scuderi's third team this season. The Pittsburgh Penguins traded the two-time Stanley Cup winner to the Blackhawks on Dec. 14 for Trevor Daley. Scuderi played in 17 games for the reigning Stanley Cup champions but did not register a point.
After spending the first five years of his career with the Penguins, starting in 2003, Scuderi signed a four-year deal with the Kings in 2009 and was a member of the 2011-12 Los Angeles team that won the Stanley Cup as the No. 8 seed.
The addition of Scuderi means Los Angeles has added a familiar face to a defense that's among the best in the Western Conference. L.A. has allowed the fewest goals in the West while leading the Pacific Division with 76 points.
