Report: New York Rangers Expected to Make Alain Vigneault Next Head Coach

According to Darren Dreger and Bob McKenzie, TSN's Hockey Insiders, the New York Rangers are expected to make the Alain Vigneault the team's next head coach. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but it is anticipated that both sides are very close to finalizing a deal.

Other reporters such as Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record and Sean Leahy of Yahoo! Sports filed reports that indicate that Vigneault will be making Broadway his next temporary home.

Gross had this to say on the prospect of Vigneault becoming the team's next head coach.

From the start, Alain Vigneault seemed to have the strongest credentials to succeed John Tortorella as the Rangers’ coach. Certainly, Vigneault has the coaching credentials and he fits the classic coaching carousel description of having a different personality and demeanor than the previous coach.

Vigneault has been the strongest candidate all along. He has had success at the NHL level, and he did take the Canucks to a Stanley Cup Final. He accumulated 313 wins in 540 games as the Canucks bench boss, and he also won a Jack Adams Award.
