Report: Former Boston Bruins Head Coach Pat Burns Not Dead

September 17th, 2010 by Edmond Dantes Leave a reply »
Several media outlets reported that Pat Burns had passed away, however, Burns is still alive.

He phoned TSN on Friday and said "Here we go again. They're trying to kill me before I'm dead. I come to Quebec to spend some time with my family and they say I'm dead. I'm not dead, far from it. They've had me dead since June. Tell them I'm alive. Set them straight."

Reminds us of the Mark Twain quote, "Rumours of my demise have been greatly exaggerated." This is a man who had survived colon and liver cancer. He was also diagnosed with lung cancer.

The issue here is that someone ran with the rumor that Burn was dead. This is terrible journalism, and I can only think of the grief his loved ones may have faced while reading these reports. To me it is good to hear he is alive as he has fought cancer for a while and to lose now would just break a lot of people's spirits.

I hope Pat Burns has a long life ahead of him as he has definitely earned it. Who knows? He may return to be a head coach someday.
