Rangers Winger Mats Zuccarello Headed to Russia, Could Return

After much debate and several denials, it appears that New York Rangers restricted free agent winger Mats Zuccarello is indeed headed to Russia.

According to ESPN.com's Katie Strang sources confirm that the Norwegian winger has inked a one-year contract with Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the Kontinental Hockey League. The contract also has a player option for the 2013-2014 season.

The deal reportedly has an out clause that would allow Zuccarello to return to the NHL should he ink a contract with the Rangers.

The 24-year-old saw limited playing time this season with the Blueshirts, appearing in just 10 games and posting two goals and an assist.

He did not suit up again for the team after breaking his wrist in late March but was available for the team's final two games of the season in the Eastern Conference finals against the New Jersey Devils.

In 52 career NHL games, all with the New York Rangers, Zuccarello has posted eight goals and 18 assists.
