Rangers’ Ryan McDonagh Might Not Turn Pro Yet

According to Jess Rubenstein of The Prospect Park, Rangers prospect Ryan McDonagh , who recently played in The Frozen Four, is seriously considering a return to the University of Wisconsin next season instead of turning pro.

This is not too big a deal for the Rangers as McDonagh, still only 20, was not a lock to make the Rangers next season and some more seasoning could be helpful. They also have other young defensemen to break into the NHL so this could be a blessing in disguise so the team doesn’t feel pressure to bring along too many players too quickly.

Of course there is nothing to definitely say McDonagh would definitely have played in the NHL at all in 2010-11. Most likely he would have been ticketed to spend a year at Hartford. While the Rangers, I’m guessing, would have loved to at least be able to control him down in Hartford, it’s not like Wisconsin doesn’t provide seasoning for him.
