Rangers’ Henrik Lundqvist Sets Franchise Record with 50th Career Shutout

With his 2-0 blanking of the New Jersey Devils Saturday, Henrik Lundqvist recorded the 50th shutout of his NHL career. In doing so, he became the New York Rangers' all-time leader in the category, overtaking Ed Giacomin, who earned 49 shutouts in 538 games during his time with the franchise.

Lundqvist, who has 566 regular-season NHL appearances—all in a New York uniform—to his credit, also became the team's all-time leader in wins this past Tuesday, when he recorded his 302nd career victory. The mark was previously held by Mike Richter.

Saturday's shutout increased Lundqvist's career mark to 304 triumphs and counting. That places him 25th overall all time and just two wins away from moving up a notch past longtime Islander Billy Smith, who earned 305 career victories.

Among active NHL goalies, Lundqvist is fifth overall in both career wins and shutouts. In the shutout rankings, he trails Martin Brodeur (124), Roberto Luongo (66), Evgeni Nabokov (58) and the currently sidelined Tomas Vokoun (51).
