According to Larry Brooks of the New York Post , the Rangers offered Jody Shelley a two-year contract in the neighborhood of $825,000. They also offered center Erik Christensen a contract, which was rejected.
Shelley, who was acquired mid-season last year from the San Jose Sharks, earned $725,000 last season, registering two goals and six points in 21 games with the Rangers on the fourth line.
He was credited with changing the atmosphere in the locker room, and was arguably the best Ranger the last week of the season.
According to Brooks, his agent is going to send a counter-offer back to the Rangers.
Christensen on the other hand, was not qualified by the Rangers, and rejected a two-year deal worth $750,000 per season, making him an unrestricted free agent.
Like Shelley, he was acquired during the season from the Anaheim Ducks off of waivers, and scored eight goals and 26 points with the Rangers in 49 games, playing mostly alongside Marian Gaborik on the first line.
