The San Jose Sharks have taken control of their second-round playoff series after a 3-2 win over the Nashville Predators.
In a goaltenders' duel, the first goal wasn't scored until the 18:36 mark of the second period, when the Sharks' Logan Couture capitalized on the power play after Nashville took a penalty for too many men on the ice.
In the third, defenseman Mattias Ekholm evened the score before Sharks captain Joe Pavelski deposited a rebound past Pekka Rinne, who was outstanding for the entire game, with 2:40 to play in regulation time.
Joe Thornton capped off the Sharks' scoring with an empty-net goal, which proved important when Ryan Johansen picked up a second goal for Nashville with less than four seconds left in regulation time.
After exploding in the final frame for a 5-2 win in Game 1, the Sharks are showing their ability to close out games in these playoffs. San Jose is the only team to take a 2-0 series lead in this round.
The series now shifts to Nashville for Game 3 on Tuesday.
