History will not be caught, at least not by the 2012-13 Pittsburgh Penguins, who fell to the Buffalo Sabres 4-1 at home on Tuesday night to snap a 15-game winning streak – two wins short of tying the all-time record.
The Sabres, who lead 2-1 after the first, broke the game open in the second with two goals 1:07 apart. The first was a tremendous wrap-around effort by Cody Hodgson on Tomas Vokoun and the second came off a Kevin Porter deflected pass that went through the goaltender's wickets. Vokoun was chased after the fourth goal in favor of Marc-Andre Fleury.
Porter actually opened the scoring in the first on a shorthanded goal after a miscommunication from Evgeni Malkin and Matt Niskanen led to a turnover and a puck in the back of the Penguins net. Porter ended the night with two goals to lead all scorers.
Jarome Iginla answered right back for the Penguins on a tremendous feed from Chris Kunitz, to give the former Calgary Flames captain his first goal in a Pittsburgh Jersey. But, under five minutes later Steve Ott put the Sabres ahead 2-1 on a slapshot that caught the Penguins napping, put the Sabres ahead for good.
