Pittsburgh Penguins: Finding the Next Alternate Jersey

In November of 2008, the Pittsburgh Penguins unveiled their most recent alternate jersey, a replica of the 1968-72 home jerseys. It would be worn at the 2008 Winter Classic and select games throughout the Pens' next two seasons, quickly becoming a hot item in Pittsburgh paraphernalia and a favorite among fans. However, the organization announced that this would be the final season for the baby blue alternates. Maybe a design team has sketched up a new jersey that the team will sport on special occasions, but I would hope that someone would dig into the team's past jerseys and replicate one of them. There are certainly a few that I feel are worthy of replication, but there are some that I hope to never see again. This is a look back at both kinds of jerseys, the forgettable ones and the ones that should be brought back from hibernation. Note: this is not to be taken too seriously. With all of the anticlimactic drama surrounding the Boston game, I felt it was necessary to switch some gears and have some light-hearted fun.Begin Slideshow
