I’m sure you all know who he is, but this article is a deeper look into Bob’s life.

Bob was born in Novokuznetsk, Russia, which is approximately 1,200 miles from Moscow and had a high temperature of nine degrees today.

In case you haven’t already realized, Russia is gigantic…and cold.

In 2006, Paul Holmgren almost drafted Bob at 18 years old in the NHL Entry Draft. Instead, he decided to hold off.

After he wasn’t drafted to the NHL, Bob turned to the KHL and played four seasons with Metallurg Novokuznetsk, where he served as the club’s primary backup. In four seasons of KHL play, Bob had a goals against average of 2.63 and a save percentage of .923. Not bad for a 20-year-old.

In 2007, Bob was invited to play for Russia’s under-20 squad where he had the chance to compete against some of the best Canadian clubs.
