Pittsburgh 3, San Jose 1 (Pittsburgh leads series 3-1)
The Pittsburgh Penguins moved one step closer to hoisting the Stanley Cup with a 3-1 victory over the San Jose Sharks at the SAP Center on Monday. The Penguins now hold a 3-1 series advantage.
Pittsburgh pounced for its first tally seven minutes and 36 seconds into the contest through Ian Cole, who scored his first career postseason goal. The strike handed the Penguins their fourth 1-0 lead of the series.
Evgeni Malkin doubled the lead in the second period when he knocked in the puck at the right side of the net on the power play after a feed from Phil Kessel.
San Jose, which took only four shots in the second period, came to life in the third thanks to a few line changes and shortened bench. Melker Karlsson turned the pressure into a goal just over eight minutes into the third, but the Sharks were unable to beat Matt Murray again.
Eric Fehr sealed the game with 2:02 remaining, placing a shot over the shoulder of San Jose goalie Martin Jones on a breakaway.
