The New York Rangers are the second team to advance to the second round of the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
For the second straight game, the Rangers defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 in overtime. The win gave New York a 4-1 series win in front of their home fans at Madison Square Garden.
The Penguins fought hard to stave off elimination, still playing without three key defensemen in Kris Letang, Christian Ehrhoff and Derrick Pouliot. After the Rangers took an early lead in the first period on a power-play goal by Derek Stepan, Pittsburgh sprung to life late in the second after Nick Spaling tied the game. An intense third period proved nothing.
New York couldn't solve an outstanding Marc-Andre Fleury for a second time until the team's 36th shot of the game, as Carl Hagelin curled out from the corner and beat Fleury to the glove side.
After the Anaheim Ducks beat the Winnipeg Jets on the Western Conference side, both NHL conference champions are the first teams through to Round 2.
