Sunday afternoon's highly anticipated game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals was postponed Saturday due to inclement weather in Washington, D.C.

According to Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press, a new date will be announced at a later time for the contest that was originally scheduled to be played at 12:30 p.m. ET.

Saturday night's contest between the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Islanders at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn was also postponed, per an NHL press release provided by Andy Graziano of Sportsnet NY:

The postponement of the Penguins versus Capitals game comes on the heels of the Caps' clash with the Anaheim Ducks getting postponed Friday as well, the team announced.

Per Weather.com, there is a high likelihood of blizzard-like conditions throughout Saturday in Washington, and although the weather is expected to clear up Sunday, there won't be enough time to remove snow and create a safe environment for spectators.

The Capitals and Penguins have engaged in a long-running rivalry due primarily to the presence of star players Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby.
