Did anyone expect Patrick Marleau to be ranked second in goals after 29 games?

Almost 30 games into the 2009-10 season, Patrick Marleau leads the San Jose Sharks with 19 goals. At the moment, that puts Marleau in second overall ahead of teammate Dany Heatley (18), and right behind Marian Gaborik of the New York Rangers. Gaborik has 21 goals in 25 games this season.

The Rangers' star forward is the only player to reach the 20-goal plateau this season, but Marleau is knocking on the door.

"Patty" has 14 assists for a total of 33 points this season. His 33 points put him in third place behind Gaborik (37) and teammate Joe Thornton (39).

Marleau, who just played his 900th career NHL game on Tuesday against the Ottawa Senators, has tallied five goals and two assists in his last five games. This includes a hat trick in a shootout victory in Edmonton.
