A win is a win, and when you've only earned one in six attempts, the euphemism rings all the more true.
But, as in most things in life, often times the end results don't fully reflect the process by which they came to be.
After the Senators executed two perfect periods of play, by far the best thus far in the season, the team reverted to their "deer in the headlights" system of playing not to lose, allowing the Sabres to entirely dominate the third period.
By shear luck, and some stellar goaltending, the lead was protected.
If this game, and all of its results, can highlight to the Senators dressing room the importance of playing hard and committed to an aggressive system, while also showing the risk of playing a passive/reactive game, then it may mark the change in play so many have been predicting since the beginning of the Sens' slow start.
