It is being reported that long-time Red Wings Nicklas Lidstrom has signed a one-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings, giving the 40-year-old defenseman one more shot at glory in the NHL.

The deal is reported as to being for 1 year, at $6.5 million.

After the Red Wings were ousted by the San Jose Sharks in round two of this years playoffs, the biggest question for the Red Wings heading into this summer was would Lidstrom be returning for at least one more year.

The Red Wings suffered their shortest time in the playoffs this year after being ousted by the San Jose Sharks in 5 games, who eventually went on to get swept by the Chicago Blackhawks in the Conference Finals.

This was the shortest playoff run by the Red Wings since losing to the Edmonton Oilers in the first round in 2005-2006, the final year of captain Steve Yzerman.

Lidstrom's offensive production dropped off this year to 49 total points - his lowest since 2003-2004. His nine goals were his fewest in a single season since 2001-2002.

Lidstrom lead the all Red Wings players in ice time for a 12th straight season.
