Nicklas Backstrom Injury: Updates on Capitals Star’s Recovery from Hip Surgery

Washington Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom continues to recover from offseason hip surgery with the hope of missing minimal game time.

Trotz Comments on Backstrom's Status for Start of Season Thursday, Sept. 24 "I think he’s got in his mind he’s going to be ready for opening night," Capitals coach Barry Trotz said, via Chuck Gormley of CSN Mid-Atlantic. "We’ll see. I don't doubt him. He’s the only one who knows his body. He’s doing extra stuff and I don’t doubt anything Nick Backstrom says."

On Sept. 18, Capitals general manager Brian MacLellan told Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post that Backstrom is expected to return within the first 10 games of the regular season.

Backstrom had the surgery toward the end of May and was expected to return before the beginning of the season, according to Prewitt.
