NHL Trade Rumors: Latest Buzz Surrounding Kris Letang

Kris Letang is starting to become the subject of many NHL trade rumors, as the star defenseman and the Pittsburgh Penguins have reached a contract impasse.

Letang has one year left on his deal. The two parties are trying to negotiate an extension, but the two sides have been unable to come to an agreement. 

According to Pierre LeBrun of ESPN, Letang rejected an offer from the Penguins:

If Letang and the Penguins do not come to an agreement, the star could be headed to Toronto. Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported that if Letang is traded, Toronto could be a possible destination. The Penguins would request an NHL-ready prospect, another top prospect and a first round pick in return for Letang, according to Rossi.

The Penguins, who do not currently have a first round pick, could acquire Toronto's 21st overall pick in this year's draft.

Bob McKenzie of TSN tweeted that Letang's agent has not yet discussed the Maple Leafs with his client:
