NHL Trade Possibilities: Could the Philadelphia Flyers Get Jarome Iginla?

Call me crazy. Call me stark raving mad. This is my first article for Bleacher Report and I thought I would start with a bang by merging two very large rumors together.

Jarome Iginla is on the trading block. There is no question about that. He is a struggling franchise player on a struggling team. He is a genuine NHL superstar, although some would argue that he is past his prime.

The Calgary faithful are calling for the team to be burnt to the ground and rebuilt, which would start with trading their aging superstars, namely Iginla and Miikka Kiprusoff.

Jeff Carter will be a restricted free agent at the end of this year, and will likely be looking for a raise from the cap-strapped Flyers. He is 25 years old and is in the prime of his career.

As for the Flyers themselves, their window of opportunity for a Cup is on the closing end. Players such as Chris Pronger, Kimmo Timonen and Danny Briere aren't getting any younger. Their time is now.

You can probably see where I'm headed with this.

A trade of Iginla for Carter, from Calgary's perspective, would be a positive one.
