If you were picking a word to describe the NHL's trade deadline at 3 p.m. ET on Monday, that word would be "underwhelming." A year after 24 trades were completed before the 2015 deadline, this year's trade period came and went with a few minor trades.
Here is a rundown of the day's deals:
The Boston Bruins looked to solidify a few weaknesses as they make a push for the postseason, adding winger Lee Stempniak and defenseman John-Michael Liles.
Amalie Benjamin of the Boston Globe was somewhat wary of the team's decision to make two trades for veterans:
The Bruins are currently sixth in the Eastern Conference, though seven teams are within eight points of the Bruins as they battle for a berth in the playoffs.
Joe Haggerty of CSNNE felt the Stempniak addition would help the club:
Stempniak has 16 goals and 25 assists on the season and led the Devils in points.
