Dallas Stars

More news is coming on why the Stars did not trade away Mike Ribeiro for a top defenseman. As mentioned in my article yesterday, the Stars are having budget problems and to trade him required taking salary back since Ribeiro has a five million dollar cap hit. A deal was so close that Nieuwendyk was considering moving budding star winger Jamie Benn to center. 

However, Ribeiro has a limited NTC and Joe Nieuwendyk has stated that he does not want to take on another team's problem. I believe Riberio will be moved in a year or so. All we can do is wait and see. 

 

Colorado Avalanche

RFA forward Peter Mueller still has not re-signed with the Avalanche. What's holding things up? Possibly his concussion history. Or it might be Avalanche management thinking long-term (extending Craig Anderson?). Unless Mueller isn't seeking a ridiclous raise, he should be staying in Denver for now.

I see the Avalanche re-signing him on the cheap, which allows Mueller to have a career year and cash in when his contract goes up.
