NHL Rumours October 6: Souray Trade Rumours, Cap Problems and More

Joanne Ireland of the Edmonton Journal reported that Steve Tambellini will not put Sheldon Souray in the minors until the last second in hopes of making a trade.

Tambellini also does not want to carry three goaltenders for long, as he attempts to trade either Jeff Deslauriers, or Devan Dubnyk. Should that fail, expect him to demote one of them to the minors.

The Souray idea seems logical, but they should really consider keeping lots of goaltenders. As we learned last year, wonderful goaltenders can be hidden anywhere.

Robert Tychowski of the Edmonton Sun also reported the Souray rumours, but added that if Souray is put on re-entry waivers, some teams may be interested in him because they would only have to pay half his salary.

This would be ideal for a team that does not plan to spend to the cap, as they can save some money on a reasonably good player. In essence, I expect a small-market team to claim him, if anybody at all.
