NHL Rumours: August Seventeenth

Some truly hilarious rumours are running around.

One idea floating around is that Luke Schenn should be traded. In other words, put Schenn on the trade block since we have so many defensive prospects about to enter the NHL. This is an awful idea, as Schenn is one of the main building blocks of this franchise; expect his cap hit to be low. Besides if we deal him, we would have to get someone truly amazing; which begs the question:where are we going to find the cap space?

Apparently Lou Lamoriello has chosen this year to bother Gary Bettman as he has offered Ilya Kovalchuk a contract in excess of ten years in length. Didn't he learn from the first voided contract? At first I thought Lamoriello was just trying to get rid of these ludicrous contracts, but now I think this is not Lamoriello at all. Someone else must be pulling the strings.

Although Joe Nieuwendyk was tight lipped about the possibility of acquiring Kevin Bieksa, it would make no sense if he did acquire him.
