There's simply just not this many men growing out facial madness in the general population. But when it comes to the NHL, the playoff beard is the perfect fit. The New York Islanders started the tradition back in the '80s and hockey players from pee wees on up have adopted the habit. That doesn't mean it's always well executed. There are some players where it just doesn't fit. Still others go about it in all the wrong ways. Nonetheless, there are some brilliant examples of the playoff beard.
