NHL: New York Rangers Make More Cuts, Roster Down to 25

October 3rd, 2010 by nick p Leave a reply »
The Rangers have made another set of cuts today, trimming the roster to 25. The players cut were:

Offense

Mats Zuccarello and Dale Weise were both sent to Hartford.

Defense

Ryan McDonagh and Pavel Valentenko were both sent to Hartford.

Shocking

Michael Sauer remains with the New York Rangers as one of seven NHL forwards, while both Ryan McDonagh and Pavel Valentenko were sent to the AHL. I did not think Sauer had a good preseason, but somehow he made it over McDonagh (who was excellent) and Valentenko (who was also excellent). This does not come as a huge shock to me, knowing that Sauer would have to pass waivers if he was cut from the roster.

Final Roster Set?

There are a total of 25 players on the roster now, and still two players must be cut. Their is a possibility that the Rangers place Chris Drury and Vinny Prospal on the IR sometime today, cutting the roster to 23 without having to make another set of cuts. The players that remain on the roster right now seem to be the players we will see opening night, but anything is possible.
