NHL Game Recap: Islanders Dethrone Kings 3-0

Tonight was a good one in Islander Country, as the Isles shut out Drew Doughty and the Los Angeles Kings at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, by a final score of 3-0.

The Islanders played their most complete game of the season, shutting down LA's offense and keeping the Kings defense on their heels for the majority of the game.

Matt Moulson had a big night against his former club, beating brother-in-law Jonathan Quick twice.

There were times where the Islanders' penalty kill looked like they were the ones on the power play.

The Isles had at least five shorthanded breakaways in the game, and Frans Nielsen opened the scoring midway through the first period with a shortie, showing his versatility. He played a great game on both ends of the ice.

Goaltender Al Montoya was surprisingly sharp for the Islanders, turning aside every shot he faced, and earning his second career shutout.

This was Montoya's first start as an Islander. He also notched a shutout in his first career start, which came with the Phoenix Coyotes.

John Tavares stayed red-hot, adding an assist on one of Moulson's goals.
