It’s been three days since the NHL began free agency, and most of the better players got picked up pretty quickly. This years free agency pool was so shallow, I feel as though there should have been a “No Diving” sign somewhere. Now, with the likes of Matthew Lombardi, Sergei Gonchar, Paul Martin, Colby Armstrong and more already off the market, there is a much thinner crowd to choose from. This however, does not mean that there are no useful players left, waiting for the right contract from the right team. The shock factor of the first few days of free agency are now over, but that does not mean that the excitement is. Now is when many of the key pieces of a winning team are signed, players that could dramatically help you in a bid to make the playoffs or an entertaining cup run. The market still holds a lot of value. With many talented players left unsigned, teams across the National Hockey League could be taking another plunge into the free agent waters. With 3rd line centers, front end defenders and even a first line superstar, the UFA crowd is still rich with depth.
