NHL Free Agency 2012: San Jose Sharks Sign TJ Galiardi, Is Shane Doan Next?

According to a San Jose Mercury News report Monday, July 9, 2012, the San Jose Sharks have re-signed restricted free agent T.J. Galiardi to a one-year contract.

CapGeek lists the contract value at $950,000, almost 30 percent more than the $735,000 tender they extended to keep him as a restricted free agent. But because Galiardi was set for an arbitration hearing, this signing eliminates the risk San Jose will have to pay more.

Galiardi is just 24 and already has had an up-and-down career. He had 18 goals and 25 assists in his first 81 professional games. But he played just 35 games the next season (for which seven goals and eight assists is solid production) and ended up in his coach's doghouse.

Last season he had played 55 games for the Colorado Avalanche before being part of a trade that sent away some of the team's best already-thin young talent, Jamie McGinn. TJ was scratched in seven of the 21 games after the trade, plus two of the five playoff games.

In all 17 games played in San Jose between the regular season and the playoffs, he had one goal and no assists. Between the teams he had nine and six, respectively.
