NHL: Chicago Blackhawks Captain Jonathan Toews’ Harsh Words for Gary Bettman

The first two weeks of the NHL regular season have been canceled, which eliminates five games on the Chicago Blackhawks' schedule.

Blackhawks' captain Jonathan Toews voiced his frustration with the way NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has handled the situation thus far. (via the Chicago Tribune):

"'It’s another disappointing but expected move from the league,'  Toews said. 'This seems to be our commissioner's bread and butter; it's almost like he is excited to take away hockey from the fans and the players just because he can.'"

It's the first time regular season games have been canceled since the 04-05 lockout that overtook the whole season.

Both the NHL and the NHLPA have told the media that a deal will only be made if the opposite side were to make concessions. But talks have stalled and it's looking more and more likely that October will be lost to the lockout.

"'Personally, I still haven't heard a valid argument from the league for what they are doing, just that they want more and last time it wasn't enough,' Toews said. 'If they would be as determined to solve these issues as they are quick to point the finge ...
