Give the NHL credit for one thing: The league understood that its most recent iterations of the All-Star Game were anything but artistic successes.

After a couple of years of letting All-Star "captains" pick their own teams—it was Team Toews over Team Foligno by a 17-12 score in last year's exhibition in Columbus—the league has changed formats once again.

The league has decided to conduct a four-team tournament with the new three-on-three regular-season overtime format as its All-Star Game.

The Atlantic, Metropolitan, Central and Pacific divisions are all represented by 11-man teams that will compete in 20-minute three-on-three games.

The Atlantic and Metropolitan division All-Stars of the Eastern Conference will meet in one game, and the Central and Pacific division teams will meet in the other semifinal game. The two winners will square off in a third 20-minute title game.
