New York Rangers: Ryan Callahan Leads Team in Informal Practice

Today is only Sept. 2, but the Rangers are already taking steps to get ready for the regular season.

This week, the Rangers participated in a series of informal practices. This may not appear to be significant, but when you see players attempting to bond and develop chemistry this early in the hockey year, it makes you feel warm and fuzzy as a fan.

These practices were player-organized, but according to Rangers beat writer Jim Cerny, Ryan Callahan appears to be the ringleader. This is nice to see from a leader such as Callahan, who is a top candidate for the vacant captaincy.

These practices included the usual cast of characters on the Rangers' roster, prospect Chris Kreider and new additions Brad Richards and Mike Rupp. The fact that Callahan has taken it upon himself to get the team together this early shows he is really serious about being a leader on this team.

I wrote an article a few weeks back stating why Richards would most likely become the captain, but in my mind, I now feel that Callahan should wear the "C."
