New Jersey Devils Prospects Win Big on Day One at the World Junior Championships

The 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship got under way today in Saskatchewan where four Devils prospects hope to lead their respective countries to a gold medal.  In group A, Patrice Cormier (captain of team Canada) and Adam Henrique notched four points and one point respectively in Canada's 16-0 drubbing of Latvia.  Meanwhile in group B, Jacob Josefson joined Mattias Tedenby who scored a goal in Sweden's 10-1 win over the Czech Republic.

If the last two years are any indication, there's a good chance Sweden and Canada could meet in the final for the third consecutive year so the tournament should be a great chance to get a look at a few of the Devils' most promising young prospects.

It's probably worth noting that we shouldn't get too carried away with Cormier's four points today since Latvia started a goalie who normally plays in the tier III AJHL but there is still plenty of hockey to be played.  Next up for Sweden is a date with Austria tomorrow while Canada will face Switzerland on Monday.
