Montreal Canadiens: Latest Updates on Picking a New GM and Head Coach

The list seems to be getting shorter, but it's still a guessing game as to who will be the Montreal Canadiens next general manager.

As of Monday night, four names had surfaced as front-runners on "the short list."

Those people: Julien BriseBois, Pierre McGuire, Francois Giguere and Marc Bergevin.

BriseBois is currently the assistant general manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Canadiens got permission through Lightning GM Steve Yzerman to talk to BriseBois. McGuire is currently a television hockey analyst on NBC and is a former NHL head coach, assistant coach and scout. It seems like those are the two guys pulling ahead in the race. But once again, it's only speculation.

For all we know, Giguere and Bergevin could be completely off the list and there could be two other names in their places. The Canadiens certainly aren't being public about their decision.

We know Detroit Red Wings credible assistant general manager Jim Nill is out due to family reasons. So he is one name we can cross off the list of potential candidates.
