Mike Modano Headed To HockeyTown?

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that Mike Modano will sign a contract with the Detroit Red Wings.

Modano, who spent 20 seasons with the Dallas Stars, is expected to make the announcement on Thursday.

Originally drafted first overall by the Minnesota North Stars in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft, Modano played a total of 1,459 games, registering 557 goals and 802 assists for a total of 1,359 points.

Known for his skating ability, leadership qualities and penchant for scoring the big goal, Modano should fit in nicely in Detroit where he will likely assume a role on the Red Wings' third line.

Modano may also see spot duty on the second line and, in a pinch, could provide a spark to the Red Wings' power play.

At 40 years old, nobody is expecting Modano to be the player he was at 30, but with all the talent in Detroit, it is hardly a stretch to pencil Modano in for 40-50 points in 2010-11.

Until next time,

Peace!
