New York Rangers forward Mika Zibanejad suffered a broken fibula during Sunday's game against the Florida Panthers.

Zibanejad Out with Broken Leg Sunday, Nov. 20 After the game, Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault announced Zibanejad will be out for six to eight weeks with a broken fibula, per the team's official Twitter account.

The 23-year-old center crashed into the boards in overtime during an eventual shootout loss to the Panthers. He scored his fifth goal of the season in the third period.

"It didn't look pretty," teammate Marc Staal said of the injury, per Sean Hartnett of WFAN 660. "Hopefully, it's not too serious. I hope he's all right. It's a scary play."



It turned out to be serious enough to cost the young player a large chunk of the 2016-17 season.

Zibanejad was off to a strong start in his first year with the Rangers, totaling 15 points in his 19 games. He is one of five players on the team with 10 assists this season.
