With the Olympic trade deadline approaching, the Ottawa Senators announced they've acquired center Matt Cullen from the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday for defenseman Alex Picard and a 2010 second-round draft pick.

The Senators have been red hot since mid-January, winning 13 of their last 14. Their victory last night, paired with a Hurricanes victory over the Sabres, pushed the Senators past Buffalo into first place in the Northeast Division.

Cullen had 12 goals and 28 assists for 40 points this season for Carolina. The 33-year-old center averages more than 18 minutes per night and logs a lot of power-play time back at the point. He is in the last year of his contract, which pays him $2.875 million.
