All hail Martin Brodeur, the new shutout king of the NHL. The guy who will never give credit to the other team, but never really takes blame himself when committing a mistake. The guy who for the most of the 1990s and early 2000s, had arguably the best defense of any era of the NHL, and limited the shots against down to 20 a night.
To put it bluntly, I'm sick of hearing about Brodeur. He, like any goalie of this 'new NHL', have seen their statistics inflated with the introduction of the shootout. Gone are the ties, and in their place, many, many more wins to every goalie in the league.
I'll throw it out there, I'm a life-long New York Ranger fan, but have no problem giving credit where credit is due. But to see this guy break record after record, whether it be the shutouts, wins, most time on ice, most calls given by referees. It just bothers me.
He's the Bret Favre of hockey. His hometown fans love him, and analysts can't give him enough accolades, but the independent bystanders can't stand him, and can't wait for him to hang up his skates.
