Markus Granlund to Canucks: Latest Trade Details, Comments and Reaction

The Vancouver Canucks acquired 22-year-old Markus Granlund from the Calgary Flames, the team announced Monday. The Canucks sent Hunter Shinkaruk to Calgary in the trade.


Granlund has played in 31 games for the Flames this year, tallying four goals and three assists on the year.



The former second-round pick out of Finland had split time between the American Hockey League and the Flames throughout his three-year career. In his rookie year, Granlund played 52 games and accounted for 46 points. He was called up to Calgary from the Abbotsford Heat in the 2013-14 season and played seven games, tallying three points.

He had the best professional season of his career in the 2014-15 season, playing 48 games and scoring a career-high eight goals.

Vancouver general manager Jim Benning believes Granlund is someone who can step in right away and contribute, per the Canucks:
