The Tampa Bay Lightning will play in the Stanley Cup final.

With a near-perfect road game, the Lightning defeated the New York Rangers by a score of 2-0 at Madison Square Garden on Friday night.

For 60 minutes, Tampa Bay delivered airtight defense, limiting chances for the Rangers while gradually turning up the heat on New York netminder Henrik Lundqvist. Alex Killorn beat Lundqvist between the legs for what proved to be the winning goal at the 1:54 mark of the third period.

Ondrej Palat added an insurance marker at 11:17, while the Rangers were unable to solve Ben Bishop and the tough Tampa Bay system.

Though the Lightning were not able to close out the Rangers in Game 6 at home on Tuesday, shutouts for Bishop bookended that 7-3 defeat. Ultimately, Bishop outduelled Henrik Lundqvist, who was 6-0 in his last six Game 7 appearances. Tampa Bay outshot New York 25-21 on Friday night.

The Lightning will play for their first Stanley Cup since 2004 starting Wednesday, June 3. They'll face the winner of the Anaheim Ducks-Chicago Blackhawks series from the Western Conference, which wraps up with its own Game 7 on Saturday night.
