Kevin Hayes, Rangers Agree to New Contract: Latest Details and Reaction

The New York Rangers are betting on Kevin Hayes' future after agreeing to a new deal with the 24-year-old. 

The Rangers confirmed the agreement with Hayes, who was a restricted free agent, on their official Twitter account. Hockey analyst Aaron Ward reported the deal is for $2.6 million over two years.  

There's no denying Hayes' talent when he's on the ice. The former first-round pick has scored 81 points in 158 games with the Rangers over the last two years. He finished tied with Chris Kreider for the sixth-most assists (22) on the team last season. 

Hayes' future with the Rangers did not appear to be secure, however. Head coach Alain Vigneault was not shy last season about calling out his young winger for poor play.
