The News York Islanders announced Wednesday morning that Josh Bailey was called up from their AHL team in Bridgeport, and will be on the ice with the Islanders Wednesday night as they take on the Tampa Bay Lightning.
It seems likely that Bailey is now a permanent member of the Islanders NHL roster, because Wednesday night he will hit the 160 NHL game marker. Once a player hits this, they would need to clear waivers in order to be sent down, and with a talent like Bailey, it seems unlikely that Snow would risk having him grabbed by another team.
Bailey started off the year strong for the Islanders, scoring six points in their first five wins. He then followed this up with a 13 game pointless streak, and was sent down to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
In just 11 games with the Sound Tigers, Bailey scored six goals and dished out 11 assists, putting him in prime position to be called up.
Many Islanders fans were upset when Bailey was sent down and thought that he was ready to play in the NHL, well others felt the AHL development would benefit him. Bailey was the Islanders first round pick (9th overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
