Joe Thornton Ties for 25th on All-Time Points List

San Jose Sharks forward Joe Thornton tied Hall of Famer Brendan Shanahan for 25th on the NHL's all-time points list Monday night, per Sportsnet Stats.

The veteran notched his 1,354th career point in the second period of Monday's game against the New Jersey Devils. Thornton assisted on a Logan Couture power-play goal that gave the team a comfortable 3-0 lead in a contest it went on to win 4-0.

While Thornton started his career with the Boston Bruins, he's been a staple of the Sharks lineup since being traded to San Jose for Brad Stuart, Marco Sturm and Wayne Primeau in 2005, per Hockey-Reference.com.

He was instrumental in the team's trek to the Stanley Cup Final last season, tallying 82 points—63 assists and 19 goals—over 82 regular-season games. Unfortunately, San Jose fell short in a Game 6 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Among active players, Thornton sits behind just Jaromir Jagr (1,877) in points and assists (1,126). He currently owns 975 assists, good for 13th on the all-time list.

Thornton will receive an opportunity to pass Shanahan in Wednesday's matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks. ...
